WOMEN, Children and Poverty Alleviation Minister Mereseini Vuniwaqa will address participants at the Regional Consultation on the Implementation of Domestic Violence Legislation from Law to Practice at the Novotel Nadi next week.

The three-day forum which will be held from 23-25 October is being organised by the Pacific Community’s Regional Rights Resource Team (RRRT) in partnership with the UN Women Fiji Multi-Country office (MCO).

The consultation will bring together the most senior civil servants of ministries responsible for the implementation of the domestic violence legislation in each Pacific island country.

It will also include individuals who sit on national domestic violence task forces, committees or advisory councils.

This consultation will look at strategies for implementation of domestic violence legislation, how these may be applied or how existing strategies for implementation can be strengthened.

With the world’s highest rates of violence against women and girls being recorded in the Pacific, Pacific peoples are coming together to ensure the robust implementation of domestic violence and family safety legislation – enacted in 12 Pacific countries and two states in recent years.
