Former Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Mereseini Vuniwaqa has been appointed chair of the Family Planning (FP) 2030 governing board.

She will be the first chair of the partnership’s new governing board as it oversees and shapes FP2030’s key strategies.

Family Planning 2030, formerly known as FP2020, is a global partnership to empower women and girls by mobilising investments in rights-based family planning.

An article published on the FP2020 website stated Ms Vuniwaqa would be overseeing the governing board, a diverse group of experts composed of members from various FP2030 stakeholder groups from across the globe.

It stated the new board marked a shift from FP2020’s governance with a greater focus on diverse representation from governments, global non-government organisations, national civil society and youth leaders, as well as donors, with a specific eye to diversity of gender, age, geography, and background, including young people under the age of 30.
