FLYING Fijians halfback Serupepeli Vularika was the man of the match for his Suva team after scoring a try, kicking two conversions and two penalty yesterday at the ANZ Stadium.
Suva won 32 – 20.
Just three minutes into the game, Suva winger Meli Rusa scored their first try, which was converted by Vularika.
Vatukoula’s defence was in shambles in the first few minutes of the game, with Vularika quickly adding another three points to the scoreboard through a penalty kick.
In the 34th minute, Vatukoula fullback Kitione Ratu scored, but it was unconverted. Four minutes later, he repeated the feat.
Just four minutes after his first try, Ratu again crossed the scoreline, much to the Suva side’s disappointment, as Vatukoula was quick to gain momentum and speed and was aggressive in its attack.
Suva replied through Rusa for a try in the corner converted to see Suva 17 and Vatukoula 10 at halftime.
In the second half, Vatukoula winger Lepani Raiyala added another five points to their tally after a successful pick and drive from their five-metre line.
This left Suva in a state of shock, but they quickly bounced back with another penalty kick from Vularika, and then a try by Vularika, again extending Suva’s lead to 25 – 15.
Suva scored another penalty try, which was converted by Vularika which secured their win with 32 – 15.
In the dying minutes, Raiyala scored another try, which took the final score to 32 – 20.
Meanwhile in another Skipper cup competition match, Naitasiri claimed a landslide victory over Tailevu in a 68-26 match.
At halftime, Naitasiri was leading with 33 points while Tailevu had collected 20 points.
