Local contemporary dance group, VOU will rub shoulders with renowned global artists and musicians at the world’s biggest festival, the Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom.

The group leaves the local shores for the UK tomorrow, the first international tour they will engage in since the pandemic hit two years ago.

The local contemporary dance group will perform alongside renowned Jamaican musician Ziggy Marley, American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish, English singer and the Beatles co-lead vocalist and bassist Paul McCartney, Kendrik Lamar, Diana Ross, Megan Thee Stallion and Calvin Harris to name a few.

VOU rehearsal director Stuart Tuidela says the trip will present him an opportunity to share Fijian stories with an international audience.

“I am really looking forward to watching some of the world’s most famous artists,” Mr Tuidela said.

“I want to watch and learn how they do their stagecraft such as their props and how they use the space and interact with the audience.

“I am going with an open mind and want to learn as much as I can and bring it back to Fiji and incorporate it into my work as a rehearsal director.”

VOU director Edward Soro said the group was honoured to represent Fiji at the world stage where dancers would perform the production of Fiji Untold at the Glastonbury Festival.

Mr Soro says the group will then head to the city of Graz in Austria to perform culturally inspired performances by the arts loving community at Aus Dem Haus.

“It really is an honour to be invited all the way to Austria to perform dances and songs of Fiji,” Mr Soro said.

“We hope these kinds of opportunities inspire more Fijian youths to take pride in their culture and endeavour to preserve Fijian dance and chants.”
