Vodafone Flying Fijian and Swire Shipping Fijian Drua player Apisalome Vota is relishing his moment in the national squad and adamantly waits for his opportunity to run out and represent his country in the Pacific Nations Cup.
“It is an honour to play for the Drua and to be selected into the Flying Fijians squad,” said Vota.
“I have been dreaming of this moment all my life. I know children growing up in Fiji aspire to represent the country and wear this jersey. This is my opportunity to show everyone I can do it and I will do my best to make my nation and family proud.”
Rubbing shoulders with Waisea Nayacalevu, Levani Botia and Setareki Tamanivalu was something Vota said he thought was only a dream and had to pinch himself a few times when the team marched into camp last week.
“I used to watch them on television and now I am training alongside them. Even when we marched into camp in Nadi last week, I had to pinch myself a few times because I was shocked to stand next to them.”
Vota is raring to go and if given the chance, he will most likely line up against Malakai Fekitoa and Charles Piutau in the midfield – a challenge he says he will take head on.
“Like every game in the Super Rugby Pacific competition, I was playing opposite big names in Australian and New Zealand rugby, so I know what to expect.
“If I am given the chance to play against them, I know the challenge ahead and I am ready.”
