SUVA lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo has been re-elected to continue as the chairman of the Fiji National Rugby League.
He was elected by his nine-member board at a special meeting at the Rugby League house in Suva yesterday.
“We adopted from last year the strategic plan of the Fiji National Rugby League going forward to the next three world cups beginning next year. That is 2017, 2021 and 2025,” he said.
“I am happy that the new board has experience from various sectors and industries and I am looking forward to having them contribute effectively in the policy matters of FNRL and the game and making sure that it continues to be a prime brand in the world of rugby league.
“We are looking beyond 2021 and 2015 and what we are looking at is having a fair amount of local representative playing in the Bati jersey in those two world cups.
“The board term is for a year, but because of our rotational policy, one third of the board will be retired next year, two thirds will continue and the elections will only have one third of the number.
“We continue to have ten board members up to the AGM next year and that will mean that six board members will continue, and three new board members will come in.”
Former chairman Peni Musunamasi was among the new inclusion this year.
Vosarogo polled five votes, Musunamasi 4, Zack Ratabacaca 1.
“Peni has a lot of experience in rugby league and sport management. He has been a long standing chairman.
“He has a rich experience that we will draw from.
“For the new board members, one come from the medical sector, Saimone Lomaloma (Fiji Residents captain) is an accountant, and the other board members have a lot of experience. I am looking forward to working with them to build the profile of rugby league.”
The focus of the sport would be the Rugby League World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year.
