Citizens have a responsibility in terms of how they care for government-funded projects in communities, says Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo.
He said this while opening boreholes and water systems in Vanua Levu recently.
Mr Vosarogo told villagers in Macuata and Cakaudrove that their contribution towards the maintenance of the facilities would ensure non-disruptive operation.
“As a citizen of Fiji, you too have certain responsibilities to uphold,” he said.
“The Government will continue with our responsibility to deliver to you the best which can be provided and please do take ownership of the critical resources and related infrastructure.
“These systems require consistent attention, periodic maintenance and therefore, a very active water committee is critical and effectively supported.”
Mr Vosarogo said Government would continue to provide the best facilities for the communities.
“The responsibility of monitoring, maintaining, managing and protecting resources as well as the water supply infrastructure belongs to the villagers.
“Please do take ownership of this critical resource and related infrastructure and support your water committees.”
