FRANCE based Racing 92 fly-half Ben Volavola says the 2019 Rugby World Cup was a great learning experience for the Flying Fijians as a group but disappointing as well because they could not reach the quarter-final stage.

Volavola, one of the star players in the squad, who came off the bench in the second half in the shock 30-27 loss to Uruguay.

According to Volavola, the short turnaround period after the opening game against Australia was not really a major factor in their downfall against Uruguay.

He said they made too many mistakes.

“We recovered really well after the Australia game,” Volavola said.

“We believed in the team that was selected for that Uruguay game and it was really on us the playing group to deliver on that day.

“It was the kicking game and some other aspects which were highlighted as the downfall when we reviewed the game.

“We saw that we made so many mistakes and did not take the chances that we had. Not just kicking but all throughout our playing style that day.”

Volavola who has earned 32 test caps and scored 198 points for Fiji said kicking for goal was more to do with mentality rather than it being a physical thing.
