Vodafone Kaji Rugby: 16 teams progress to quarters tomorrow

The Vodafone Kaji Rugby Championship will progress to the quarterfinals tomorrow with 16 teams going through to the knockout stages at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Eight teams will participate in the tier one quarterfinals and eight in the tier two and the semifinals will be played later tomorrow.

The quarterfinal playoffs will be played in two tiers, the tier one with eight teams and also in tier two.

The competition has reached a stage where the players mentality of professionalism take another step forward and the consistency of structured rugby can be witnessed.

Tournament director Tiko Matawalu said the tempo of the competition continues to rise as they draw closer to the knockout stages.

“We can see from day one to the second day, the atmosphere and tempo of the competition starts to change as teams begin to give in all vying for a sport in the quarterfinals.

“To this new format of competition, we’ve witnessed an improvement in the performances and that shows that the teachers and coaches mentality of grooming these young players is developing.

“We’ve witnessed structured rugby and different patterns of play displayed in the field and that shows rugby in primary schools continues to grow,” said Matawalu.
