TWO Chinese nationals have self-quarantined themselves as a preventative measure against coronavirus.

China’s ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo made the revelation during a press conference in Suva yesterday.

He said one was self-quarantined in Suva and the other one in Nadi.

Mr Qian said the self-quarantine exercise did not mean they had the virus.

“So far we only have the six Chinese nationals and we understand the measures taken by the Government,” he said.

“We have learned that there are two individual cases.

“One is the case of a Chinese national who is a tourist. The lady is not feeling well, she has fever and the fever was gone the next day.

“We had immediately called for a doctor and she had been medically checked and quarantined.

“And the other case is a Chinese national who is working in other Pacific Islands and had travelled to Fiji.

“He was not feeling well. He had fever in the first place and it had gradually diminished and he has also approached the doctor and has been advised to be quarantined.

“His office is in Vanuatu and he had come back from Beijing but not from Wuhan.

“He was in some company meeting in Beijing where many Chinese were involved and maybe they had contacts and that is why he is in doubt of himself.

“So two persons are being quarantined by themselves and are being looked after by the doctors of Fiji.”

Mr Qian said the Chinese Embassy was still waiting for full medical reports of the two.
