BUKA,23 OCTOBER 2018 (POST COURIER) – The collaboration between the ABG and the National Government continues to gain momentum as both governments prepare for the referendum.
President of the Autonomous Bougainville Government John Momis said this as he welcomed the Minister for Bougainville Affairs and Goilala MP William Samb to the region.
Momis was adamant that the continued growth in the relationship between both governments would enable the referendum to have credibility as the process unfolds in the coming months.
“The Ministry of Bougainville Affairs is the conduit between the ABG and the National Government and Minister Samb’s arrival on Bougainville shows PNG’s commitment to peace building on Bougainville,” Momis said.
“The last JSB meeting was a success that saw both governments consensually agreeing to important issues pertaining to the referendum, paramount amongst these was agreeing to the question to be put,” he said.
He said the last JSB resolutions will pave the way to successfully implementing the Bougainville Peace Agreement and administering the referendum.
“I welcome Mr Samb and the delegation to Bougainville on his first visit to the region as the Minister for Bougainville Affairs,” he said.
“I wish him well as he travels throughout the region and meets with Bougainville’s leaders and the people.”
Samb was also grateful for the opportunity to visit the region and thanked the President and the Autonomous Bougainville Government for having him in the region.
He said he was looking forward to traveling throughout the region and to meet with leaders and people of Bougainville.
This visit is the minister’s first visit to the region as Minister Sports and Bougainville Affairs.
Upon landing in Bougainville he paid a courtesy call on the President and met with the Chief Secretary to ABG Joseph Nobetau.
