More than 150 tourist operators and hoteliers have participated in the Tourism Fiji campaign to boost local tourism.
Launched in June, the campaign “Love Our Locals Fiji” has been hailed a success with the growing number of Fijians taking advantage of the lowered rates.
As a result of the positive response, Tourism Fiji released a Vinaka video to acknowledge Fijians for their support of the domestic tourism campaign.
Minister for Tourism Faiyaz Koya said the campaign supported by locals has truly captured the essence of Fiji’s Bula Spirit.
“We have seen resorts reopening to the domestic market and Fijians being re-hired,” he said. Tourism Fiji Marketing director Emma Campbell said the impact of the global pandemic had meant that the domestic tourism market was more important than ever.
“We have been amazed by the response to the campaign and are delighted to see the people who have the means to travel are really enjoying exploring and travelling lots.
“We are seeing some resorts booked out on weekends and a real focus on supporting local.
“We thank the people of Fiji for loving their local tourism industry, and we thank the tourism industry for loving their local visitors.”
