SOCIAL Democratic Liberal Party MP Inosi Kuridrani says villages within the province of Nadroga have started to experience the devastating impacts of climate change.

While delivering his maiden speech in Parliament, he said climate change was inevitable and no one in Fiji was immune to its devastating effects.

In Namatakula Village, Mr Kuridrani said, shorelines had eroded and marine resources had depleted.

“The land of my ancestors which was given down to my people, rich with its natural resources and vast marine life is now a harsh reality of dried up river and scarcity of our local fruits and vegetables and the extinction of local fishes famous along our coastline,” he said.

Mr Kuridrani said it saddened him that the future generation of his homeland wouldn’t be able to enjoy the resources.

He believes that laws, policies and dialogues aren’t enough to address and resolve social and environmental issues resulting from the impact of climate change.
