THE lives of villagers of Draunikula in Galoa, Serua, are always at risk mainly because they are located right beside the Queens Highway.

Two villagers have already died from accidents along the highway next to the village.

Their prayers were finally answered yesterday when Vodafone Fiji distributed reflective jackets to the villagers to ensure their safety while using the road.

The distribution of reflective jackets is part of Vodafone Fiji’s road safety campaign.

In acknowledging the initiative, Draunikula Village headman Aporosa Tuibau said they had been looking for a remedy as such to help them curb unnecessary road fatalities.

He said this was a first for the village.

“We are so grateful to Vodafone for thinking of us. This will help the villagers in many ways,” he said.

Mr Tuibau said the reflective jacket was something they had always wanted.

“There will be no more road accidents because we will be wearing this all the time we use the road.”

Vodafone Fiji’s sponsorship manager Adriu Vakarau said they would also distribute reflective jackets to roadside villages along the Coral Coast.
