MORE than 50 villagers of Galoa in Serua last night became road marshals and helped direct vehicles through the flooded Waivunu and Culanuku roads.

The villagers were single filed by the roadside and were indicating to oncoming vehicles the direction they should follow to avoid landing their vehicle into the nearby drains.

Maria Beranadeta a villager from Galoa who was among the many said they wanted to make sure that the traveling public were safe.

She said floodwaters in their area rose at 5pm yesterday.

Ms Beranadeta said things would get worse during high tide.

Meanwhile, this newspaper made flood rounds around Navua last night and witnessed several houses under water.

And as of 7.30pm the Navua River had almost burst its banks. Residents along the area were on standby to move to higher ground if rain continued.

The Fiji Roads Authority yesterday confirmed that Vunaniu flats along the Queen’s Rd was also under water.

FRA said there was a landslide in Korovisilou in Serua and had advised motorists to be extra vigilant when traveling.
