The Ministry of Health has locked down a village in Macuata following eight cases of reported typhoid.

The ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr James Fong, confirmed they had to lock the village down after the increased reports of typhoid.

“We have received eight cases of typhoid with the last contact tracing made on October 28, 2022,” he said.

“All affected are clinically stable and completed treatment. We have no admissions now.

“There’s a two weeks restriction with the 10th day yesterday.”

Dr Fong said the villagers have been restricted from drinking kava and feasting in the village.

“Villages are allowed to travel to work and school with hygiene assurance,” he said.

“It is advisable for outside relatives to defer visit until restriction is cleared.

“The fever screening in the village is being done with oversight of Coqeloa Health Centre team.”

Dr Fong said visits to conduct awareness will continue.
