Police have cautioned a village headman and elders in Macuata after reports surfaced of a huge funeral gathering two weeks ago.
Police spokesperson Savaira Gonedua confirmed a team of policemen visited the village along the coast of Macuata to warn and advise the village elders about the COVID-19 restrictions.
It is understood that about 300 people gathered at the funeral.
“The visit has also provided an opportunity for our team to conduct awareness programs in the village and remind them about the importance of adhering to COVID-19 measures,” she said.
“Villagers need to know that only 10 people are now allowed in a funeral gathering and we need to abide by these instructions.”
Ms Gonedua said police would continue to monitor the situation ensuring that COVID-19 measures were upheld.
