Victory moves Deo to top of snooker rankings event

NADI businessman and engineer Mahen Deo has moved to the top of the North West Billiards and Snooker Association (NWBSA) Rankings Championship after taking out the second event at the South Seas Club on Sunday.

He defeated hometown favourite Tony Cen 3-1 in the final.

Deo downed Rajnesh Prasad 3-0 in the semi-final while Cen defeated Shalen Scotty 3-1 in his match.

NWBSA president Suresh Chauhan said many top players had qualified for the eliminations.

“There were more than 40 players who registered for the tournament which is good for the sport,” Chauhan said.

Deo said it was good to get back to winning ways.

“It was tough competition,” he said.

“There are many new players coming up so the competition level is high. I haven’t been practising regularly because of work commitments so I am happy to get back to winning ways.”

Deo won $300 while Cen received $200. The losing semi-finalists got $100 each.
