Veteran Rajen Singh will defend the 50th RC Manubhai-sponsored Ba Open Golf Championship at the Fiji Sugar Corporation Rarawai course from February 6-7.

The 62-year-old won the 49th edition of the tournament in 2019 after carding five over par in the 36 holes event.

He will face stiff competition from Fiji’s leading amateur player, Abid Hussain, fellow Ba Golf Club (BGC) member Asish Chand and Mohammed Rizwan.

BGC vice-captain Rohit Chandra said a field of more than 100 players were expected for the two-day event.

Rohit said with this being RC Manubhai’s ‘Golden Jubilee’ sponsorship, attractive prizes would be at stake. He said this was the longest tournament sponsorship by a local-based company.

“The professionals will play in both days of the Ba Open Championship for the first time,” Chandra said.

“A total of $4000 will be up for grabs for the professionals.

For the amateurs, the prizes will be worth more than $5000. Women golfers will also compete and there will be a junior category.”

Amitesh Chandra, Tomasi Tuivuna, Barroon Hussain and Vikrant Chandra will be the top seeds in the professional division.
