Verekauta fronts court on dangerous driving charges

Former Fiji sevens rep Niko Verekauta was produced at the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Verekauta appeared before Magistrate Waleen George charged with a count each of dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle while there was present in the blood a concentration of alcohol in excess of the prescribed limit.

The prosecution served full disclosures in court.

Ms George granted Verekauta bail with strict conditions.

It is alleged that last Saturday at Lami, Verekauta drove a motor vehicle on Marine Drive in a manner that was dangerous to the public.

It is also alleged that there was present in 100 milliliters of his blood a concentrate of 226.6 milligrams of alcohol which was in excess of the prescribed limit.

The case has been adjourned to April 1.
