THE Land Transport Authority has advised vehicles owners to seek prior approval from the authority before carrying out any vehicle modifications from manufacturers of original specifications.

In a statement, LTA chief executive officer Samuel Simpson said a number of vehicles were confiscated on August 11 and taken to the LTA headquarters in Valelevu, Nasinu.

He said those vehicles were modified and not roadworthy in accordance with regulations.

The modifications, he said included illegal tints, illegal exhaust (hot dogs), mufflers, and hot dogs’ system causing a noise nuisance.

“Vehicles will be inspected by LTA vehicle examiners,” Mr Simpson said.

He said vehicle owners had been summoned by the LTA and the authority would carry out the process before returning the vehicles.
