Vasu looks at options

FIJI Corrections Service Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu will look at his options before he decides whether or not to reapply for his post which has been advertised by the Constitutional Offices Commission.

Mr Vasu took over as the Commissioner of Prisons in 2011 but at the age of 55 years, he still has a chance to continue in the position under the State Services Decree of 2009.

Under Section 22(7) of the Decree, the Commissioner of Prisons is excluded from the mandatory 55 years retirement age, the same applies to the Commissioner of Police and Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

“I will need to look at my options and the post again before I can comment on re-applying,” he said

Meanwhile, RFMF land force commander and military spokesman Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho has denied rumours that he was being eyed for the post.

Col. Qiliho said he had no intention of applying for the position nor had he considered it although it had an attractive remuneration package.

In jest, Col. Qiliho said “military blood flows in my veins”.
