PORT VILA, 12 OCTOBER 2018 (VANUATU DAILY POST) – More than 180 experts and practitioners from more than 35 countries will converge on Vanuatu for the Understanding Risk Finance (URf) Pacific conference.

The conference, the first of its kind in the Pacific, is facilitated by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management and the World Bank.

It is set to focus on how countries can build financial resilience by planning ahead to better manage the economic and humanitarian impacts of disasters; and building a better understanding of climate and disaster risk by improving the way risk information is gathered, analyzed, and communicated.

URf Pacific will highlight best practices and innovative approaches from around the region and explore how disruptive technologies are accelerating efforts to build disaster and climate resilience.

The conference will open on Tuesday, 16 October 2018. Over four days, the conference will feature over 20 technical, policy and interactive training sessions showcasing innovative approaches in government action, community engagement, and private sector solutions.

On the morning of Wednesday, 17 October, Ministers of Finance from around the region will visit the National Early Warning Center (NEOC) and Emergency Operation Center (EOC) in Port Vila.
