Vanuatu PM meets Forum SG

PORT VILA, 09 FEBRUARY 2019 (VANUATU DAILY POST) – Vanuatu Prime Minister Charlot Salwai has acknowledged the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat for its plan and role to financially assist member countries address challenges posed by climate change.
PM Salwai conveyed his appreciation when he met with Forum Secretary General (SG) Dame Meg Taylor at the Office of the Prime Minister on Monday, Government Public Relations Officer (PRO) Hilaire Bule stated.
Dame Meg Taylor says the Secretariat is working hard to source funds and help member countries whenever a disaster strikes.
She acknowledges the assistance of donor countries to member countries but says the Forum can also help.
SG Taylor says she will send a team to Vanuatu to see how the Forum can aid member countries respond to the challenges of climate change.
PRO Bule mentioned that the Forum SG also told PM Salwai that the theme of the Forum meeting in Tuvalu this year is ‘Securing the Future in the Pacific’.
Prime minister Salwai says Vanuatu will welcome the Forum leaders when it hosts the Forum Summit in 2020. The PM notes that this will coincide with Vanuatu’s 40th Independence Anniversary.
