A number of Vanua Levu residents asked the parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights whether their consultation presently conducted by the committee was part of campaigning for the 2022 polls.

During consultations held across Vanua Levu, voters asked the standing committee how many political parties would contest the 2022 General Election and whether the committee members were using the consultations for campaigning.

Committee chairman Alvick Maharaj said the purpose of their visit was to gather public submissions for the reviewing of the Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2020, the Electoral (Registration of Voters) (Amendment) Bill 2020, the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) (Amendment) Bill 2020 and the 2018 General Election Joint Report by the Electoral Commission and the Supervisor of Elections.

He assured voters that political parties had not begun campaigning.
