COMMANDING Officer for US Navy Ship USS Shoup (DDG 86) Commander (CDR) Andy Strickland says their visit to Fiji was about building stronger relationships.

He made the comments while speaking at a press conference this morning at the Kings Wharf in Suva.

Commander Strickland said this included participation in the areas of arms and ammunition and seeking key partnerships.

“While we are in the country, we also have community relations events that includes planting mangroves and playing basketball to name a few ,” Commander Strickland said.

He also mentioned that there were plans to have defense personnel from Fiji to be on board the ship for future attachments.
