A US national appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today for allegedly assaulting a police officer earlier this month.

Andrew Grant, 35, a project officer at the University of the South Pacific appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili, charged with one count of assault and one count of disorderly conduct.

Police prosecutor Inspector Josua Shaw said the accused allegedly assaulted a police officer in Bayview Heights and when he was arrested, he allegedly smelled of liquor.

Mr Ratuvili granted bail with strict conditions to Mr Grant.

“You are not to reoffend, do not change your address and you are to report to the Nabua Police Station every Thursday,” he said.

The matter has been adjourned to November 22.
