US Fijians give $32k to PM’s cyclone fund

The Prime Minister’s National Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund received $32,000 from the Fiji American National Association (FANA).

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said the contribution had arrived at the right time.

He thanked Fijians in the US for their generosity and commitment to rebuild lives devastated by STC Yasa.

He said Fijians had maintained a great spirit of service wherever they were and were always ready to assist.

Permanent secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister Yogesh Karan said the destruction caused by STC Yasa was extensive.

“Recovery and rehabilitation will be long and difficult,” he said.

“Such a generous contribution from Fijians in US via FANA lifts Government’s efforts to support families rebuild their lives speedily in a targeted and a co-ordinated manner.”

He said the relief fund would provide support in a highly transparent and accountable manner.

He said the work done by the National Disaster Management Office could be tracked.

“The Prime Minister’s Fund will ensure that no family is left behind in the TC Yasa rehabilitation,” Mr Karan said.
