The United States Embassy in Fiji will now postpone its July 4 independence day celebrations due to COVID19.

The U.S. Ambassador to Fiji, Joseph Cella said however they would still be patriotic this weekend and celebrate their country individually.

“We have never been on a footing like this in the history of our country, you can talk about a combination of elements , the Spanish flu, the stock market crash, world war II , 9/11 elements of all that is all in this,” he said.

“It has rocked the world and it’s sad to see its impacts on every day people in the countries that I am accredited too.”

He said we need to take stock of all the blessings that have been given to us by God.

“We need to hold close those dear to us , value life and to recognise how transient life.”

“We need to  hold our faith closer and our loved ones closer through this and really rejoice in the liberty we have been blessed with as Fiji celebrates its 50th year this year and America celebrates its 244th year of independence this is a very special time to introspect.”

“At a point where we are forced to introspect and being away from my wife and kids it’s a time of great nostalgia and we will be celebrating in solidarity 16 time zones away from each other.”
