FORMER Ratu Kadavulevu School student Serupepeli Uru will join the Melbourne Rebels in training in Australia this week.
In a video posted on the Melbourne Rebels Facebook page, the 20-year-old Namoli, Lautoka lad, spoke about his rugby career.
“If I stayed home, sitting there and looking at my family will make me a useless kid, so I thought to move on,” Uru said.
“One thing that I’ve noticed when you play in Australia, you play structure but back at home when the game becomes tougher, you would like to play your own game style.”
Uru was part of a youth group that left the country for Australia to be part of a three-month sports development tour.
“I was shocked when told that I’ll be training with the Melbourne Rebels and that I’ll be meeting some stars in the team. It was fun training at Box Hill as we trained two days in a week – Tuesdays and Thursdays, but for the Rebels, you have to train every day like there are two sessions and more things do in training.
“My goal as a rugby player is to achieve something better in life through rugby. I want to be in that level being in a Super Rugby or if I could move on in playing international for Australia of Fiji then I am hoping to achieve that in my life,’ he said.
Uru was named the Player of the Year in the secondary schools category during the Fiji Rugby Union awards night at the Novotel Suva Lami Bay hotel in January.
He was a member of the RKS Deans Trophy winners in 2015, and a player in the school’s under-19 team last year.
