There is an urgent need to save our oceans as we face issues like decreasing fish populations, coral bleaching, and rising sea levels.

Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Sakiusa Tubuna made the comment while officiating at the Blue Prosperity Marine Spatial Planning Workshop at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi.

Mr Tubuna urged international cooperation in resolving issues that are endangering our oceans and emphasised the need for collaboration and highlighted Fiji’s contribution to ocean conservation.

“Even though we are different, the ocean brings us together,” Mr Tubuna said as he urged everyone to work together to solve the problems affecting our oceans.

“Together, we aim to protect and manage 30 percent of the oceans. Stay strong: by working together and being committed, we can ensure healthy oceans and thriving communities,” he said, referring to a global agreement among 190 countries.

The workshop which is supported by the WAITT Foundation will conclude on Friday, August 11, 2023.
