Urgent food drive

AN urgent food drive to assist families on Kadavu affected by Severe Tropical Cyclone Keni will be held this Saturday, organised by SODELPA provisional candidate Lynda Tabuya.
Originally from Tiliva Village on Kadavu, Ms Tabuya said her island needed Fiji following the devastation left behind by Severe TC Keni.
“After careful consultation with villagers on Kadavu, the main priority identified was food. Most food ration reserves on the island will run out by next week,” Ms Tabuya said.
“This is why I have focused all my efforts in organising a food drive.”
She said donation from her proceeds from the SODELPA Nasinu fundraiser that was held last week would also be directed towards recovery efforts on Kadavu and this was part of her first initiative.
“Hearing stories from the chiefs of Nakasaleka about the destruction of food crops and houses was the main motivation for me to try and assist in any way possible.
“At the moment we are planning to have trucks pick up non-perishable food donations such as tinned food and biscuits around Nasinu and Suva from 8am to 1pm and the Kadavu and Nasinu rugby youths have come forward to volunteer for this food drive.”
Ms Tabuya is also appealing to members of the public who live along the Nausori and Suva corridor to give canned foods and other non-perishable food items during the food drive this Saturday.
Details on the food drive appeal will also be posted on Ms Tabuya’s official Facebook page.
