MEMBERS of the public can now experience a newly-redeveloped modern Suva Civic Centre fused with contemporary cultural art.

The iconic facility now has modern features and world class audio-visual technology after redevelopment works which cost about $20 million.

The upgrade of the Suva Civic Centre was funded by China’s Guandong Province formalised under a memorandum of understanding with the Suva City Council in March, 2017.

The facility, which has over the years been a top venue for many major events in the Capital City, was handed over back to the municipality earlier this evening.

Speaking at the hand over ceremony, Fiji’s Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar said the newly refurbished Suva Civic Centre demonstrated the friendship and partnership between the people and communities of Fiji and China – including Suva and Guangdong.

He said the Suva Civic Centre had hosted an average of 650 events per year.

The redevelopment included upgrading the exterior look, a redesigned auditorium and provision of new seats, sound system and improved gallery area.
