Unvaxxed Fijians dominate the number of severely ill COVID-positive patients admitted in hospitals, says ANZMAT Charlie team leader Bronte Martin.

“If you look at the trend, those who are admitted in hospitals in a severe condition or, unfortunately, have passed away having contracted the COVID-19 virus, are dominantly belonging to the unvaccinated group of people,” she said.

Ms Martin said with the large number of cases in the community, a certain number of deaths was expected with it.

“I would like to send my condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones in this outbreak.” She said a lot of Fijians were showing up at hospitals at very late stages of severe illness.

She also urged people who were unsure about the vaccine to discuss their concerns with their healthcare providers.
