Rugby coaches are like military generals when it comes to war.
They cannot prepare a successful battle plan without knowing the enemy.
That is the dilemma facing the manager of the Raiwasa Taveuni 7s team, Seba Vulakoro, before the Fiji Rugby Union Super 7s Series starts at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka today.
Raiwasa Taveuni is in the same pool as Police Blue, Fire which won last week’s Fiji Bitter Mokani 7s and Wadigi Salvo.
“We played Police Blue in Taveuni last year and we lost to Fire last week because of a wrong decision in the Mokani 7s,” Vulakoro said.
“But we do not know this Wadigi Salvo team or where they come from.We have lost to Police and Fire 7-14 in both encounters. We have rectified our mistakes, but for Wadigi, we do not know their style of play and the players they have.
“This is like going to war not knowing your enemy, but we will do our best. Police and Fire are like the Fiji 7s team. They are full of top players. We are the underdogs and we will do our best.
“We have unknown players. These are farmers but they were selected from across Taveuni. This is a learning trip for them and we will put our heads down and hunt for the ball and the points until the final whistle.”
The team received a boost on Wednesday when Paradise Beverages general manager sales and corporate affairs Joseph Rodan Sr presented them with $1000 to help in the tournament.
“It is our help to them as one of the farthest travelling teams, to help expose their talents. Paradise Beverages believes in helping grassroots rugby and we wish Raiwasa Taveuni team the best in the tournament.”
The series starts today.
