University rugby champion loses opening game

THE Fiji inter-tertiary sports competition continues to grow after a massive turnout on the first day of competition at USP Laucala Campus grounds in Suva yesterday.

Participants include students from universities in Labasa who also took part in competitions which started yesterday.

Competition ends tomorrow.

USP sports president Gabriel Qoro said these years competition had received positive feedback as more universities would be competing in the three-day tournament.

“We have more than 2000 athletes who will be participating in this three-day competition. Every year we have increase in the numbers which is good for the promotion of sports,” Qoro said.

“This year we have Pacific Regional Seminary back in the competition that was part of the FUSA game after so many years. Davuilevu Theological College in another institution who have joined us this year after so many years and they will compete in two sports this year.

“We have introduced one new game this year which was badminton and we are expected touch matches between different institutions.”
