President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has called on delegates at the inaugural Pacific Anti-Corruption Regional Conference to share information, knowledge, best practices and expertise that assist in preventing corruption.
“I urge our countries to unite, to fight against corruption, to ensure that our efforts in common areas of interest and concern do not go to waste” he said in his opening remarks today.
“In our region, each country has its own unique way of identifying, combating, and preventing corruption.
“Each of our countries will also have its fair share of challenges when it comes to individual anti-corruption efforts.”
The President says some countries have implemented anti-corruption mechanism that are slightly more stringent and advanced in terms of years of operation than others.
He also urged delegates to use the two-day conference to discuss and share knowledge and best practices in the fight against corruption throughout the Pacific.
“As a region, we share a past.
“It is also because of that we share a common goal for our future.
“We want a region not only to survive its many challenges, but to thrive it through it all.”
A line-up of experts will address delegates at the event currently underway at Natadola’s Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa.
