MAJOR apparel company ICON has signed a six-month deal to supply the Fiji National Rugby League with the official uniform and kits for the upcoming international fixtures.

The Fiji Residents is set to face Tonga on June 1 while the Fiji Bati and the national women’s team will feature in the Pacific Series in Australia.

The Fiji Bati will take on Lebanon while the national women’s team will face the Cook Islands.

In October, the Fiji Bati will play the Prime Ministers XIII while the national women’s team will take on the Australian Jillaroos.

Both matches will also be played in Australia.

ICON chief executive officer Faisal Payenda said this deal was in the making for the last 12 months.

Payenda said they came to Fiji to open their own factory with the view of one day to be doing uniforms for the Fiji Bati and the other national teams.

“ICON is obviously a prestigious brand,” he said.

“We have done a lot of work behind the scenes to see that the quality of the jersey and the kits are up to standard.”

ICON chief commercial officer Daniel Salpietro said this was an ambition in the last 12 months which had now become a reality.

“Through certain circumstances, this opportunity has arisen for us so with quick negotiations we are looking forward to the first June Test,” he said.

“This partnership we have formed is until December. The reason for the short contract is to make sure that we have our priorities right in the five upcoming matches that are ahead. It is proud to associate our brand with the Fiji Bati and also the country of Fiji.”

FNRL board member Mesake Navugona says they are grateful to ICON.
