Fiji is one of 92 developing countries that the United Kingdom has pledged to help get access to COVID-19 vaccines.

As part of the UK’s commemoration of the United Nations 75th anniversary, a three-day virtual visit to London by the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres resulted in the announcement of the UK’s pledge to help distribute one billion doses of coronavirus vaccines.

UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said it was only fitting that on the UN 75th anniversary, the UK has led its allies to make one billion doses of coronavirus vaccines available to vulnerable countries.

“We’ll only be safe from this virus when we’re all safe – which is why we’re focused on a global solution to a global problem,” he said.

Mr Guterres said the “vital investment” would help stop the spread of the virus and prevent future waves, helping to build back better from COVID-19 globally.
