MANLY Sea Eagle flyer Akuila Uate has shown his interest to be part of the Fiji Bati to the Rugby League World Cup later this year.
Uate said he was ready to represent his island nation if called upon but he also wanted to give the newcomers a chance to get a spot in the team.
“I would love to represent Fiji to the Rugby League World Cup but I will also give the young players a chance to prove themselves to the selectors.
“I’ve had three World Cups with Fiji and I would love to see the young ones progress and get selected to this significant tournament, but it will not stop me from contesting for a spot in the final squad,” said Uate.
Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) chief executive officer Timoci Naleba said it was very kind for Uate to give others a chance and only the best would be selected depending on their performance.
“We could use experienced players like Uate in the team but it depends on his performance,” Naleba said.
