WEIGHT-LIFTER Ulina Sagone settled for two bronze medals in the 58 kilogram lift in the junior and senior categories at the Commonwealth Championship in Malaysia yesterday.
Weightlifting Fiji vice-president Christopher Yee said the athletes were making Fiji proud.
“It is a big achievement for Sagone,” he said.
“She has been working hard for the achievement. She is one of the youngest athletes in the competition. She did her best against the other top weight-lifters from other countries.”
Olympian Manueli Tulo also settled for a bronze medal in the 56kg senior weight category on Thursday.
“We are on the right path as more achievement would come our way in future. The weight-lifters had an ongoing preparation for a year now and now they are producing results. Apolonia Vaivai and Taneila Rainibogi would be competing this evening (last night) and we hope for the best.”
The athletes return tomorrow. Meanwhile, Eileen Cikamatana also created history after winning a gold medal in the World Youth Championship on Tuesday.
