RAISING awareness on non-communicable diseases through the forms of television and radio commercials are no longer working, says prominent Fijian surgeon Dr Jone Hawea.

Speaking at the Pacific Island Food Revolution launch at Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva yesterday, he said the present young generation would be more influenced with something glamorous.

The Pacific Island Food Revolution will feature a cooking competition presenting some of the most delicious local cuisines in the Pacific.

The reality television show will feature cooks from Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu and Samoa.

“A lot of our health messages in terms of pamphlets, radio and television messages are not appealing anymore with our current generation,” Dr Hawea said.

He said the reality cooking competition show would assist in the promotion of eating healthy traditional food.

“I am glad the design is made to make our local cuisine, our traditional food are made glamorous and I am positive it will appeal to everybody from the young to the older population, it will be a game changer.”
