WORLD Rugby Sevens player of the year Jerry Tuwai could be on his way to becoming Fiji’s 7s all-time top try scorer this weekend at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Cape Town 7s.

The Olympic gold medallist currently sits level with former Fiji 7s player and captain Osea Kolinisau on 122 career tries, only three tries short of equaling Nasoni Rokobiau’s record of 125 tries.

“Jerry Tuwai is as good a player as he is and needs to be at that competitive level all the time,” said Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber.

The Fiji 7s team will look to do one better in their last outing of the year after a ninth place finish last weekend in Dubai. Fiji, after beating Japan 24-17 was upset by Argentina 21-24 before they beat France in the final pool game 24-14 but it was not enough to get them a Cup quarter-final spot.

Fiji 7s all time top five try scorers 1. Nasoni Rokobiau 125, Jerry Tuwai, 122, Osea Kolinisau 122, Samisoni Viriviri 120.
