CANCER does not only affect, it afflicts, it impacts on everyone in the family.

This was highlighted by Fiji Cancer Society communications officer Grace Tuvakasiga during Telecom Fiji Ltd’s Pinktober morning tea event in Suva yesterday.

She said during home visitations she has seen first-hand how much cancer affects the family dynamic.

“I have seen first-hand what cancer can do to a person and even to a family’s life,” Ms Tuvakasiga said.

She said cancer affected both women and men.

“Pinktober focuses on women who suffer from breast cancer but we have to keep in mind men have breasts too, it could also affect them.

“So we need to include them in our conversations as well.”

She said the Fiji Cancer Society provided an array of services to assist cancer patients.

“Some of the services we carry out include home visitations, we procure medications for patients who cannot get those medicines under the free medicine program.

“We also provide transportation to and from home if the patients need to come for their clinic or chemotherapy.

“We also provide prosthesis and bra’s for women who have undergone mastectomy or breast surgery.”
