More than 60 people were taken into police custody after a brawl that broke out between youths from two neighbouring communities.

Police confirmed that men from the Public Rental Board flats at Mead Rd and those from Sukanaivalu Rd in Nabua, Suva were involved in the scuffle.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said personnel from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces assisted in controlling the tension.

Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre co-ordinator Shamima Ali said they were contacted by single mothers from the area who “lived in fear” following the incident.

“We received calls from single mothers living at those PRB flats and they told us they lived in fear,” she said. She said she hoped police would boost their presence and come up with a solution.
