Attorney-General Siromi Turaga has dismissed claims that he formally met with suspended Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) commissioner Francis Kean.

His message to the media when quizzed about the issue was “do not treat the former commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) Francis Kean as a person of interest”.

Speaking to the press on Monday after a tour of the Fiji Corrections Service Korovou facility, Mr Turaga said he felt it necessary to make clear there was no meeting between him and Mr Kean that day.

“No, I didn’t have any meeting, I bumped into him, coming out of FNPF (Fiji National Provident Fund),” the A-G said.

“Just like how I can meet anyone. There’s no restriction on me meeting him nor on him meeting me. He has not been charged so we don’t treat him as a person of interest.”

Mr Turaga commended Mr Kean and his predecessor on the structural works of the correctional facilities.

“I must give credit to the two former commissioners, (Iowane) Naivalurua and Kean, in terms of the structural works, buildings that you’ve seen.

“I guess, probably that was achieved through the funding budget. “I’ve noticed that their (FijiFirst) government has been very accommodating in terms of the budgets to the Prisons on their programs.”

Mr Turaga said he had asked the management team to come up with new rehabilitation projects that would be tended to and supported by Government.
