Tuitubou quiet on incentives

NO incentives have been finalised for Team Fiji for winning medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Team Fiji departed for Gold Coast yesterday with high hopes of winning medals. Fiji’s best chance of a gold is with the Gareth Baber coached Fiji men’s 7s team.
Fiji’s last medal win in the competition was by Apolonia Vaivai who won a bronze in weight-lifting in 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.
At a press conference at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi yesterday, Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou did not wish to comment much on the issue.
“I won’t say at this moment,” stated Tuitubou.
“But like what we have experienced before, Government will come up with the incentive after the result of the competition. Like we had the rugby award recently, our national 7s team got $25,000 for winning the New Zealand 7s and Vancouver 7s and $10,000 for reaching the quarter-finals of the Las Vegas 7s.
“The sponsors and the Government came up with the incentives after the results of the games. So nothing is determined as yet.”
