A TSUNAMI readiness test will be carried out on the 5th of every month.
This was confirmed by the Director for National Disaster Management Anare Leweniqila following a drill this morning in Suva that took many by surprise.
He said the exercise would test the readiness of those living along coastal areas.
“A lot of people were quick to evacuate this morning and it shows that they are aware of the evacuation system that are in place,” he said.
“The NDMO also received numerous calls from the general public which indicates peoples responsiveness to the early warning system.”
