Registration and application for scholarships and loans under the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) for the 2023 academic year are open, a spokesperson from the organisation has confirmed.
The Fiji Times sought clarification from the board after a number of concerns were raised by members of the public on social media regarding the status of TSLS programs, including the Tertiary Education Loans Scheme (TELS) and the outstanding debt.
“TSLS registration and application for the academic year 2023 is open,” the spokesperson said.
“Students are encouraged to use TSLS online application portal to register and apply. The portal is accessible via the TSLS website.”
TSLS is also expected to conduct a review of the programs that are presently under the scholarship and loan scheme.
Earlier, there were concerns about graduates flooding certain sectors while others were lacking in human resource.
“TSLS has engaged an expert from Queensland University of Technology who is currently reviewing priority areas in close consultation with stakeholders. The final report is expected to be presented by early April.”
Meanwhile, the TSLS board also met with its line minister, assistant minister and permanent secretary last week.
“The board welcomed the new ministers and assistant ministers and gave assurance to be guided by them on policy direction and implementations.
“The meeting was primarily focused on information gathering and no discussion took place on policy changes. TSLS, as a committed statutory organisation, will be guided by the Government on policies.”
