TEAM of three Fiji Taekwondo Association athletes will represent Fiji in the 2019 Korean Ambassadors Cup Taekwondo World Championship finals in South Korea next week.
Anegha Narayan, 19, Bernadette Jeong, 19, and Mikari Tekairaba, 16, were excited to represent Fiji.
“This is my first time representing the country in an international tournament and for that I am excited,” said Jeong.
“There have been many opportunities, but I never used them. This year I have decided to take the opportunity to get some experience.”
Second time competitor Tekairaba said she would try and improve from her performance in 2017.
“From the past one I attended, I need to improve on my flexibility and encourage and practise good sportsmanship.
“I thank the support of my grandparents and parents who had been with me all the way, I will give my best shot in the Ambassadors Cup,” she said.
Experienced tae kwon do student Anegha Narayan said she was looking forward for the Ambassadors Cup and would be representing Fiji for the second time.
“This is my second time and to be honest I am looking forward for the competition, this is where a lot of experienced countries
come in and they are more experienced than us so there’s a lot we can learn,” said Narayan.
“I am happy to join Bernadette and Mikari, we just encourage each other daily and we want to give our best in this tournament,
medal winning is not really a priority because we want to get the experience,” she added.
The trio was selected through World Taekwondo to compete in the championship and they will be competing in the poomsae and sparring category.
